Question LED Problem

First, let me say thanks to the members for providing advance advice in previous threads on the types of bulbs to order, where to buy them, and how to install them. Superbright Leds was easy to order from and they have great customer service.

Unfortunately, I have encountered two problems and was hoping to get some help.

1) I have the OEM backup camera and experienced a major glare problem after installing the WLEDX5 Cool White bulbs. It is most apparent at night. I really like the bulbs and was hoping someone had come up with a quick fix like tinting the lens. Also, wasn't sure if I ordered the wrong bulbs (since they are wide angle and have side-leds pointing directly at the camera)?

2) After installing the 921X12 Cool White bulbs in the backup lights and cargo lights, I notice the performance was lacking and not even close to the brightness of the interior lamps with the WLEDX5. I'm no expert, but it seems like these bulbs are not taking advantage of the chrome reflector inside the lens (these 921 bulbs are as long as the standard bulb, but only have LEDs on the tip/front of the bulb). I called Superbright Leds and they suggested trying the WLEDXHP5 bulbs in Natural White because they are wide angle. Hopefully this will cure the problem, but was wondering if anyone else has gone down this road.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I'm no expert... but it sounds like the glare that you're experiencing is because of the wide angle bulbs. Probably the only way to eliminate the glare would be to somehow shield the side portion of the bulbs from the camera lens.

As far as the brightness/ performance of the bulbs... It's probably a "by design" type of thing. I don't believe that most LED style bulbs are designed to effectively make sure of the reflectors installed in most application that come with "standard" bulbs. The wide angle LEDs might work, as the rep suggested, but they might not either..

good luck

Exco
