Question Big difference with Vararam

I looked through the few posts about the Vararam intake and my questions still aren't answered. I'm not in the market for an intake right now but will be in the near future with also a tune and muffler.

Whats the big difference compared to a K&N or volant. Ik K&N is open compared to volant closed . but is it really that big of a difference? and then add in Vararam? Are they all around the same just personal opinion? or do people really notice a difference. my mind is just about blown reading all the forums about intakes to really get my questions answered.

What I'm really trying to go for with an intake is Something that will sound nice (louder) and still give me a performance difference.

As for the vararam there are only a few ppl that have them on 4th gens right now so we'll all be giving opinions sometime next week when they ship out!

Most of the data I've seen leads me to believe that almost all CAI's flow about the same CFM.

Remember, your intake manifold and intake piping will only hold so much air and the engine only uses so much air during a combustion cycle so higher flow probably isn't the key data point.

However, clean air flowing through a smooth pipe with few transitions, hard curves or right angles will improve throttle response (which is the improvement most folks feel) is key.

One last thing to consider is that most CAI's draw air from inside the engine compartment. That's heated air. Using a system that draws air from a stock cold air inlet or utilizing some other method, is preferable ("cold" air intake - get it???) but not absolutely necessary.

The combination of volume, smooth transitions and inlet air temp are the three basic areas to consider when picking a CAI.

Thats why I got my BFI, smooth transitions, Huge volume(6" inlet opening) and when combined with an Airram JetStream scoop it gets plenty of fresh cool air. Good luck with your choice.

i made my cai at a friends shop mendral bent a 3 inch pipe tucked down between fender and bumper.

2 things to consider and this is min differances
shorter intake = more ft lbs
longer intake = more hp

most of your hp is from the filter itself adding a cia in the winter will kill mpg. you dont need more cold air truck is making enough hp with the diff in temp alone to cruse. avg truck i belive only needs 30hp to maintain 60 mph if i remember correctly

It draws air from the front of the vehicle. Go to Vararam's website and check out some of the other designs..They usually can't be beat performance wise!!!

Im confused at looking at it say your doing 70-80mph and its pouring looking at that whats to stop the water from going straight in and into the filter the scoops are right behind the front grill so see what im saying

Thats what filter oil does...keeps water from going through the bigger pores of the filter.

Yes but is it like the k&n and able to have oil on on heard it was just paper filter and in that case you cant oil it and cant find any info on that on there website.
