Default Some questions about the Predator canned performance tunes

OK, I picked up an AFE drop in air filter and a Predator tuner for my 09 Ram Hemi. I'm planning to do the DIY Intake hose for the stock air box next and also replace the tube from the airbox to throttle Bottle. Then the exhaust later.
The Predator tested my patience. Intuitive setup? NO Instructions? Poor. Tech service was helpful though. So I put the Performance 91 octane tune on the truck. But exactly what did install and how do I feed it? Does 91 octane tune mean I have to run 91 octane gas? Or is it just a reference point? Considering that Premium gas is 91 octane whats the deal with the 93 octane tune? I assume that it does call for premium gas. Or am I missing something? Is there a website or person who can explain the difference between the performance tunes on the Predator? Thanks for the help fellows

i could be wrong but the only difference between 91 and 93 etc tune, is the timing. I think its like 2 degrees difference between the two. So yeah, if you use the 91 tune, then use 91 octane, and so forth. Predator has a forum and theres tons of info there in case this didnt help.

Yes the tune (I.E 87, 91, 93) is the minimum octane rating that you should run when running that tune. You need to run 87 octane (reg) with the 87 tune, 91 octane or greater (mid-grade) with the 91 tune and 93 octane ore greater with the 83 tune.

Top center under support, click on forum. Don't expect very clear answers though, I have found that most of the answers you get are very vague. I get the impression (from searching and reading through the site) that the company consists of only a few people opperating out of a garage.
One programmer, and two customer service reps/salesmen/forum mods. Im sure it's not that way, but that is the impression I get from them.

There is also a Predator section here on this site with a lot of threads to read. I learned some in there as well.

I believe he made a type o here...93 octane with 83 should be 93 octane with 93 octane tune. If that isn't followed they will knock.

Don't run an octane tune that has a higher value than the fuel you are using. So don't run 87 fuel on a 91 tune. Octane values vary by area. It won't hurt to run a higher octane fuel than the tune value.

There is an extensive Predator document library here that may be helpful:

http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=43559

It was initially created with the 5.7L & 6.1L LX cars in mind but is still relevant for the trucks.

Like all of them said^

Also, different areas have different octane fuel. Around me typically you can't get just 91, it is either 87, 89, or 93. If you want 91 you have to mix half 89 and half 93. I run the 93 tune on my flashpaq and love it. It should be similar to your predator, the difference between the 91 and 93 tune is just a few degrees of timing advance. It adds 12 lb ft of torque and 4 hp in my case though according to SC (not a hemi).

Thanks for the answers guys. I did find the Predator forum here after I had already posted this. I still have a few questions but I'll look there first.

FWIW, I haven't had much opportunity to test the tune out. It has rained here every day since installation. However I did take it out the evening of the install. Jumped on it from a slow roll. When it shifted into 3rd gear it lifted the front end and must have lunged forward 50 ft. WOW!. I can tell that the throttle is much more responsive. Still need to do the cold air tube. But the Christmas rush has me pretty busy so it may be after the 1st of the year before I get that done.

Thanks again for the help

Shoot thanks for catching that.
Yes 93 tune with 93 octane +,91 tune with 91octane + and 87 tune with 87 octane +, but no added benifit will be seen by running more octane then needed.
