Default No Oil???

While I was driving I had to come to a stop pretty quickly and as I did, the oil light flashed randomly as well as th eoil pressure dropped to zero. It was only for a second though.

I purposely did it again and sure enough same thing. So i checked and my dip stick was dry. I put 5 quarts in about 2 months ago when I first got it.. I dont have oil spots in my garage or driveway where I park. the truck doesnt smoke either. What I did notice is alot of carbon build-up around my exhaust tip. Maybe its burning oil some how.. The truck runs strong and smoothe. i figure if oil was getting into the cylinders the idle and ride would be rougher as well as smoke. Any suggestions what my problem is here.

I had the same thing happen but I dont have any carbon build up or any leaks on the underside either, no spots on the driveway either. The truck doesnt smoke at all and like yours runs strong and solid? Where is it going? I think it may be burning oil but only at highway speeds when you wouldnt notice it as much, I dont even get a puff when leaving a stop light as most cars/trucks would... but I do regular oil changes but the last one was over due a few thousand miles and it was nearly dry. So now I keep a better check on the oil, I am assuming that because I have 245K on mine its being burnt either past the piston rings or valve guides but not enough to be noticable or having to keep a case on one side of the truck causing it to lean like the ole caddy's do...lol

If it was leaking past valve guides it would smoke at start up. Kill all the bugs arround you for a while. But id say your truck is burning it with haveing carbon around tail pipe. Mine just leaks out bottom of valve cover.

Im pretty sure it might be burning it off. did another oil change this morning. after letting it idle for a while to make sure there were no leaks, i revved it a little and could smell it from the tail pipe. Also not sure if this has anything to do with it, but at around 1500-2200 rpms, I have what sounds like valve tap. But after 2500 the tap goes away and it turns into a weird rattle sound. especially when the truck shifts into a higher gear at a lower speed (going up a hill) then it down shifts and its back to the valve tap sound. its not obnoxiously loud, but its easily heard with the windows up and radio off.

I was just reading about that yesterday. Is that causing the oil to seep into the cylinders? Also could I need new valve stem seals? It only smokes at start up when its could. doesn't smoke after that. I thought what i was getting was smoke from it being cold outside. After it warmed up the smoke subsided and the outside temp was still the same.

Have someone drive behind you, let the engine get to normal operating temp (hot). Maybe a 10 minute drive. Sit for about 1 minute (like at a stop light), then accelerate moderately. If you are burning oil the person following you will see blue smoke when you accelerate.
