I'll be sure to vary the speeds and not get on it for a while. I like the idea of changing the oil early. I know this is an old thread but I just joined yesterday 2/16/2011.
i have the same color on a sport model, love it. seems to change color with the varying light changes.

1. Dont baby it.
2. Dont try to blow it up.
3. The engine needs to be subject to all operating conditions including some short periods of high rpm and full throttle.
4. Moderation is key.

Best advice so far

I heard a technician say " When the engine reaches normal temp the 3rd time its broke in"..........I'm inclined to believe him cause I know him. You gotta do it your way though.

Default breakin

There is really no break in procedure for the new dodges. I stuck a magnet to my oil drain plug the day i got it home. At 500 miles I changed the oil, a minute amount of filings on the plug. Changed again at 700 miles no metal. Changed again at 1000 with Redline 5w 20 full synthetic. will change again at 8k and every 8k after that with the magnet still there. I drive my vehicles as traffic permits or like I stole it when traffic permits.

The best way? Let it warm up, and run it hard the day you buy it.

Doesn't the oil drain plug have a magnet on the end of it already?
I agree with changing out the first oil before 1000km (600 miles).

I only bought one new car before, a 6.1L Hemi and I changed the oil at 500km and 1500 km and then normal intervals.

When my truck arrives (in February) I'll change the break in oil at 800km or so and then normal intervals.
