I can see why one would want an AK, but I just picked up my M&P15 a few days ago.

I have a wasr 10 and paid 500.00 3 months ago. Also have a AR rifle and its more precision accuracy. Ak is not JUNK its simple design and highly reliable. Look at the date stamped on the ak 1985 and older are better made.Romanian factories change materials for cost savings I read.

i have had both and prefer my AR over over an AK. Simply put i prefer precision over reliabilty as i will not be dropped off in iraq with it or at least i hope not.
here is mine stock minus the collapse butt stock

I havent even messed with it yet bet because i like the way it shoots even stock,
it's a bushmaster lower and a machine tactics upper built to mil spec

Yeah I been doing my homework on these wasr 10's so im pretty straight I know what to look for. I got a line on one out here in hawaii for 549.00, seems a lil high but everything is overpriced over here so its really not that bad. I realize the AR is more accurate, Im in the military so I know all about them. I know now things are fine and you can keep your weapons out of the dirt, but what if the day comes when you cant? Im really not trying to talk crazy but you just never know if things are just gonna pop off one day. Then what? Now youre stuck with this pristine AR that jams everytime the wind blows. Yes they still jam. You can take an A1 and compare it to an A4 and 9 outta 10 things are the same. Whatever the case, I will eventually buy an AR but for now its Kalishnakov time and will make a nice addition to a growing collection.

One thing to also consider is the price of magazines. Throw the steel ones away that come with it and buy some Bulgarian waffle mags. Also when you get it it needs to be completely stripped and degreased. Mine had so much cosmolene on it that I had to soak most of the parts. If you get a unfinished wood stock buy some stock stainer and hand rub it in. I did my a dark gray color and it turned out really nice.

The AK's are nice weapons... I was worried the first time I saw the Afghan Army guys take apart their weapons and toss the pieces in the sand to rub them clean, but the sand/dust crap we have here cleaned 'em off and they fired every time after that... never jammed... And they're still pretty dang accurate too. They're not quite as accurate as my M4 (or my custom AR15 back home) but they get the job done with a lot of ass behind them and I could still hit out 300m+ every time with it... Now I also had a HK91 (.308) and that thing could take a beating and it never jammed or anything... But it all depends on what you're going for and what you want! I'll be getting a Remington 700 in either .300 Win Mag or .338 Lapua when I get back from here... Need something that'll take down a moose or bear for Alaska

Moral of the story... AK's are good weapons and will always go boom when you need it to.... although our M4's are pretty damn reliable as well, but I wish it was 7.62

They are starting to make ARs in .308, but they are retty pricey along with all other parts. I wish I could have got my ar in .308 for bustin them pigs, but I just picked up some 76grain hollowpoints and I'm hoping those will do the job.
