Default Full Exhaust Question.

Hey Ramforumz!

I have been looking through the site, and couldnt quite find what I was looking for in this topic. I am interested in adding a complete exhaust kit. Upgraded cold air intake, headers and a magnaflow system. A couple Questions I have are...

1. What kind of power can I expect to gain with an upgrade of this nature? (I have looked all over the internet and have heard so many different things)

2. Would this be able to be done in a driveway?

3. Would there be any benefit to add the dual outip option?

4. Of course, lastly, has anyone noticed any increase of fuel economy?

1. I would estimate around 30-40 hp and similar numbers for the torque if you do the intake, headers, cat, and muffler.

2. Depends. It would be helpful to have a buddy, and you would need a welder. I've never actually done headers, so I'm not sure how much of a pain it would be to do that in your driveway.

3. If you do true duals (as in one side of the engine going through it's own set of headers, cat, and muffler, and the other side going through another set) then yes, that would be better. Just going muffler back dual wouldn't do much.

4. Doing everything might give you a 3-4 mpg increase.

Hey this is my first post and I'm Glad to finally register on the forum. I'm doing the same thing to my 5.2 right now. I have done the dual, and "true dual" exhaust on other trucks and cars. My advice, spend your money elsewhere.if you know what scavenging in an exhaust/engine is you'll get what I'm going with. I am going with a set of flow tech headers, stock Piping from there to original y, replacing with flowmaster scavenger y merge. The amount of vacuum this pipe makes on the opposite bank during expulsion of air/exhaust is unreal, don't believe me I have some vids on YouTube. It will literally suck the exhaust from the cylinder, then into 3" pipe to magnaflow straight through muffler dumped at axle. True duals may be great fOr flow with now changes but useing a scavenging system is free horsepower, each exhaust stroke pulls another .just my 2 cents, don't flame!!!

I agree a good Y-pipe with a single 3in exhaust will perform the best....it will make alot more mid range tq. and thats what you need to move these heavy trucks.

I gained 20ft. lbs in the mid/low range going with this Y-pipe....(Flowmaster makes a better one) IMO dual exhaust is overrated, I see to many mid 90's Rams with GAY chrome tips sticking out the back under the bumper, and most of the time they are uneven.....I would go with a good 2in to 3in Y-merge and 3in. single setup with a turndown at the axle....

Thanks so much for the info! Seeing the information on here definitely makes it seem much more worth wild. I will continue to do my research and find out as much as I can. I look forward to starting my own thread on how it went.
