This is what I ordered and it worked out great...

56029431AH MODULE TRAILER TOW
1EB13XDVAA BEZEL TRAILER BRAKE

After I installed it I went to the local dealer and told them I needed the ITBM programmed into the PCM and they took care of it. Of course they change $110 to do it. But it all works great!

I just ordered the same yesterday at my dealer. No problem in ordering seperately. The only thing I will not have is the $83.00 screws that come in the "KIT"

I received the parts today and had it installed in just about 20 minutes. Verified the plugs were properly connected by starting the truck and observing the display of the unit, but I am disappointed that I don't see it listed in the EVIC, so I'll need to ask the Dealer to flash the system for me.

BTW... Does the trailer plug need to be connected in order for the controller to be displayed in the EVIC?

Thanks for the awesome post, and the step by step pictorial! It would of taken me a lot longer than 20 minutes to figure it out on my own!

David...

Once you have the sales code added you will see a message on the evic when you adjust your controller and you get a signal of no trailer if you squeeze the manual brake lever on the unit.

Now while we still have some 60 degree weather here in KC, I'm off for a bike ride to start loosing some of that extra Thanksgiving/Christmas "bulk"

Mine does the same thing but works perfect with a trailer. I just turn lights on if too bright for them to turn on automatically.

I would really like to know if 2009 could be tricked into thinking they were 2010s for the EVIC update. If so that would be a really nice add on.

Default 2009 with blue and grey plugs...are they the right ones?

Hi everyone!
Great information here so far. This is my first post, so hello everyone!

I have a 2009 Ram 1500 (build 12/08) with the 7 and 4 pin trailer connector and class 4 hitch and I believe the trailer tow package. I am now looking to add the trailer brake controller. I have looked under the dash and attached the pictures of my plugs. Now, I have read this entire thread, but am still unsure if I have the correct plugs or not. I'm a cabinet guy, so not much experience with electrical, so please bare with me. I live in Ontario and the stealer wants $600 incl tax to install the trailer brake!

I have not seen my layout on any of the pictures yet, that's why I decided to post now.

So, my question is, could anyone please confirm if I have the right plugs or not?

Thank you everyone in advance!

Great write up and pics. Installed mine last night and am currently waiting at dealer to have computer flashed. The service manager says that they will only flash my computer but they don't have to add anything on Chrysler. Does this sound right to anyone? All the posts here mention adding a code. Is that code just for the flash or something else?

Adding the sales code is what they do in the star scan system for your vin#. Flashing your truck updates your truck to the latest updates for your truck including the newly added sales code for the brake controller.
