Exclamation Help with rear shackle replacement PLEASE!

1998 ram pickup Both rear shackles are rusted out. just the old bolts are left and the leafsprings are touching the bed of the truck. Could someone please tell me the easiest way to replace these. I have the parts but three different people have told me three different ways.

easiest way would be to jack up the truck and set it on stands (under the frame, not the rear axle), pull the old bolts out, and bolt the hangers to the frame, and jack up the rear axle to line up the eyelets with the shackles to slide the bolt through

^That's what I'd suggest.^ Jack up the back of the truck and put some jack stands under the frame just before the rear axle. If you have access to a torch burn the rivets from the outside of the frame and what's left of the old hangers will protect the frame to a certain extent if you're not very skilled.

Either that or you'll have to grind them off. Once you get the heads off the rivets you can knock the old one out.

Since the frame is supported by jack-stands it's easiest to put the jack under the rear axle and take the tire off (doing one side at a time). Use at least grade 8 bolts and nuts to put the hangers back on and then hang the springs on the shackles. I had my bed off which made it a whole lot easier.

I know im late. But for anyone else that experiences this problem i had a hell of a time doing this.

when mine rusted out i didnt want to unbolt the fronts in fear of snapping the bolts because my truck is an old rusty-but-trusty.

no matter waht i didn to jack up the truck i couldnt get the spring low enough to line up the shackle bolt. what i ended up having to do (which i dont recommend because it could be dangerous but in a pinch it works) is lock a chain around the back end of the spring and hook the other end to the base of the jack. then jacked it up slowly. This held the spring in place while the truck rose above it.

hope it helps.
