Default 2011 ram 1500 miles

I noticed on my ram that one of the licence plate lights was not working. I crawled under the rear bumper to pull the bulb and found the culprit. The wires had been smashed in half and the wire loom tore half way off. I'm guessing this happened at final assembly. I fixed it instead of taking it down to the dealer and waiting around. While under the truck I noticed the rear end cover is covered with orange silicone. The silicone has been pressed out of the bolt holes and the sides of the covers. it is a pretty messy job of install. Is this the shoty practice of assembly with these rams or perhaps the dealer fixed a rear end problem before it happened? Do the rams use silicone gasket for the axles?

the factory pretty well cleans up the orange silicone during assembly
If the dealer did the TSB K36 for the low fluid level, i have seen some terrible clean up on some of the members Rams

My first 11 ram was loaded with orange silicone. It also was from the k36 recall.
Now my new one isn't this way. It was done at the factory.

For what it's worth, I would take it back to the dealer and have them look at the entire truck for what it's worth. You never know what else may have gone wrong...

This is my first dodge and I love it. It is a fantastic truck and this may be the first of many. The only problem. My dad is a ford guy but hey, he actually loves the look and the entire ride of my new dodge.

You need to get the dealer to document the damaged wires in case yiou have problems down the road with the truck wiring. Ideally they should replace that whole section of the wire loom.

I will be taking the truck in for the oil change. Thanks for the advice, I think I will have them fix there mistake. I believe it might have happened during transport, possible tie down anchor point might have caused it. For now I have spliced it together with a butt connector to prevent shorting issues.
