Default Custom sub box

Well I have a foxbox for my 10" L5 under the rear seat, but I have been thinking about building a "L-Box" as I called it, or a box that would sort of double for an arm rest for the back seat. I like the foxbox but it rattles a little bit and makes a bit of noise along with the base.. or maybe I was just looking for more bass and thought a big box might help out.

Anyway I was planning on leaving it sealed but by the time I got done drawing up the specs on it, I noticed that it was too much airspace for my L5 to be sealed.. it had to be ported.

Got it all put together.. it was a lot of work and still didnt line up perfectly (this is my first time trying to build a box) but I got it done.

Sad part is... I am not going to keep it. It doesn't sound that good to me. Some frequencies sound good, but others are missing the punch I am looking for. I am not willing to give up that much space (and not to mention how HEAVY this box is) for a sound that I am just sort of satisfied with.

So my next project is to do a little modding to my foxbox and then maybe end up building a custom fiberglass box over the summer.

Edit: BTW I was planning on having the box carpeted or maybe padded and upholstered - but not anymore now that I have changed my mind on it.

One thing that you might try is experimenting with the box that you have built to learn how changes to the design affect the sound. You could rebuild the top and bottom panels and fire the sub downwards which can improve the uneven frequency response. Also try loading the box with polyfill or even clay to decrease the internal volume to see if that helps. Knowing what type of sound you are going for and how to build your enclosure to suit that will save you time and headaches for when you build your final box over the summer.

Looks good man, made my first "L" box last summer. I love the look of them and they still give you use and function of two rear seats.
You really need to seal these boxes, believe me. I used tons of filler and glue.
She hits nice and hard on the lows, obviously its not a ported box so it doesn't vibrate the truck to hell, but still worth it to me
I was going to install these Type R's under the rear seats, but they are too big for every box. So this was my solution
