Default heater advise needed. . . .

I am curious about my truck I want to learn to fix my own truck so that i am not so dependent on people. I recently bought my 2000 Dodge ram 1500 v6, when i bought it the heater worked great a/c still works but feels like its always on. My heater officially stopped warming my truck yesterday. Even when i put in defrost mode it no longer warms the cab. My gas gauge has not worked right since i got the truck but it seems to be sucking more gas now that the heater is not working, what can i do to get my heater to work and boost my gas mileage?

Thank you in advance for any advice

Well to me it sounds like either the heater core has plugged up or your heater box diverter/blend door has broken. If it's cold outside where you are that might be why you're thinking the A/C is staying on. It's an older truck so I guess anything is possible. Pop the hood and look and see if the inner part of the A/C compressor pulley is turning or just the outside where the belt is riding.

If the A/C compressor is running full time that will explain your loss in gas mileage. But there is no reason anything to do with the heat should cause a loss in mpg.

I would venture a guess at the thermal relay as the heating just stopped. It's under the passenger's side of the dash right about where the passenger's left foot would hit it. It's held in with 2-7mm screws I think and should have a plug with 5 wires. Check the plug and make sure it isn't damages/melted.
