Lowes in the US carry plasti dip as well. Most people there have never heard of it, but they stock it along with the spray paint....I know you said you asked, but it may be worth checking the aisles.
I sprayed my bars Sunday...turned out amazing. I'll try to remember to take and post pics tomorrow. I've been using plasti dip since 2006 on past vehicles, and I have never seen any kind of chip or tear. The herculiner is a good idea too, but the fact that plastidip can be easily removed when you want it to, always wins me over.
by the way, it took me less than 2 cans, and I had used to first can previously on something else.
Just got done doing this today. Home Depot $6 a can for Plasti Dip. Bought 4 cans. Put 4 coats on liberally and just got into the fourth can at the end. Looks really good, had a slight problem with removing the tape off the actual step portion of the bars where it tore just a tad but I did touch up and will peel off the overspray.
