I have had a few instances where the truck has lurched, erratic shifting, clanked into gear under normal driving and think more then likely it is related to the TC issue.

I am glad I found this site and the problems that everyone else has experienced with their own trucks and the fixes/steps they have taken to correct them.

Thank you ALL for the wealth of information.
Hey just a quick question??

When was your truck built and where???

Thanks,

Ed

Sorry for the delay in getting back on here, I have been out of town.

Picked the truck up on Wednesday and was notified they had replaced the TC with the R/T part (upgrade! woot!) and tightened up my exhaust clamps to make sure they could isolate the noise.

Truck sounds better, accelerates much better, and I am very satisfied. There is a good bit more torque put down from the start now, and the tires break loose a lot easier...so my assumption is that there is more torque getting through to the wheels.

Finally, they are going to issue a recall once they have a "permanent fix" which I interpreted as a repair kit vs replacing all of the TC's.

I have been hearing that the low tow rating on the R/T was the convertor.(#5000 lbs.) Any ideas on this?.........JB.

I'm not aware of any difference in the R/T torque converter that would limit towing capacity. It has a different K-factor and a slightly higher stall torque ratio, but it is not a "lighter-duty" converter.

It seems that we often rate the towing capacity lower on "high-performance" models than on the base model, for the same platform. I'm not sure why this is the case. But for example, on the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the max trailer weight is 5000 lbs with 3.6L V6 engine, and 7200 lbs with the 5.7L Hemi (for 4x4 models). But for the SRT8 model (with 6.4L engine) the tow rating is only 3500 lbs. Go figure....

I asked about this, since I was towing when my original TC started having issues and I do tow regularly and heavy enough that it would be an issue. I was told that the truck is supposed to be good to go for the same towing numbers as before. I'll admit there is a noticeable difference and the truck is more fun to drive now...stock tires won't last to much longer!

Did you ask for the R/T to be put in or luck of the part draw? I've heard in the past that some dealers couldn't get regular TC's because of the back order or lack of parts.

If my dealer told me they would install a R/T converter, I'll probably bring mine in now rather than wait for the recall.
