Default 5.9l newbie question

I just picked up a 2002 dodge ram 1500 ( newer body style ) I got a good deal on if from a friend of mine, He replaced the 5.9l engine a year or so ago. He told me he replaced it with a 5.9l Durango engine. What is the difference?

1. does it have more power or less
2. he said it had better heads that = more power
3. did 5.9l come in the Durango as a normal engine or was it only a R/T or was there an option for both ?

im new to the dodge trucks so this is a little learning curve for me.

the reason im asking is that im looking to use this truck to pull a trailer and want to see the power of the engine to see what I can pull.

thanks everyone.

Engines are the same.
Just remember to lock out overdrive when towing.
RT was a styling option, identical engine.
5.9 was available in Dakota and Durango in RT package, but it wasn't any different than the 5.9 in any other package. Don't know for sure, but it could probably be had as a special order without the RT package as well. Your friend is mistaken on the engine. Minor differences in published HP/torque were due to different exhaust configurations necessitated by differences in vehicle underbody.

very good, motors are the same, just exhaust diff, so I guess when I buy parts for my engine I can just give them my details on my truck and all the parts will be the same. thanks
