Default 2500 Question/Newbie

Hey Everyone,
Just joined the site today. I have found tons of helpful information. I don’t have a truck yet, but and narrowing it down. My question today is:

I have found a 2011 2500 4x4 Laramie Hemi with 60,000 miles on it. We will be towing a 7000lb camper and wanted to know if this would suffice for me. Also, do you think the 60,000 miles are a concern. With proper maintenance, how long do you think I could get out of the Hemi engine? I appreciate any help. Thanks Everyone!

I had an 05 QC 2500 4x4 Hemi and my trailer is about the same weight as you have, (31ft). You should have no problem pulling the trailer. You might want to check the VIN to see if it's a 3.73 or a 4.10 Gear. Mine had the 4.10. A 3.73 will still pull it fine

You WILL want a weight distribution hitch. Do NOT get the friction type anti-sway bar. I use a 10K LB Equalizer weight distribution hitch. Reese is another good choice.

Don't forget a brake controller. Consider joining one of the many RV forums

The 60,000 miles indicates a ton of highway driving. Unless you know it was used for towing then the likelihood is that it was not purchased to tow and was just a vehicle for someone who drove a lot. The motor won't have any issues with routine maintenance, the transmission is beefed up, and with proper gearing there is little that you won't be able to get rolling.

However, depending on your towing frequency and the milage you'll be covering you might want to consider looking for a 5.9L Cummins powered truck with a manual transmission. This setup is bullet proof, the most fuel efficient for towing, and LOTS of inexpensive after market performance parts.

x2 on the 5.9 cummins, but i wouldn't think 60000 miles would be a problem for the hemi as long as the rest of the truck is in good shape.

I have a 2011 Hemi powered 2500 4x4. 4.10 gear.

I pull a 5th wheel weighing in at 7800 lbs. loaded. The truck tows very well. I can feel the trailer back there, but the truck doesn't struggle to tow it.

Gas mileage blows, but I expected that. I can avg. around 10 mpg's. if I keep her between 60-65 mph while towing.

That Hemi will tow the camper with no issue.

10mpg while towing sounds like pretty good to me.

huntergreen-

I apologize, my comment sounds pretty rude to your quote. Actually, I had 3 screens minimized at that time and was on chat with my brother and the comment I left you was in response to something my brother had mentioned.

The comment I was going to leave you was, "Yes, for the size truck and camper, I'm not too angry about the MPG's. It could be worse."

Again, sorry about that hunter, I'm starting to lose my mind.
