Has anyone found something that runs better in the engine
Well I have a 5.2 and had a 5.9. But I just use the OEM Mopar Filter it seems to work very well im comparison to the other filters I have tried, I use a fram and it leaked, I used a purolator and it didn't leak and held up very well, now I figure I'm just going to use the OEM filter because it was made specifically for the engine and it has an internal seal to help against leaks and hect whats an extra dollar or two...
Now for the oil, I use valvoline. I like penzoil, but I just use valvoline for everything, especially since they made more then just oil. I use 10W40 Conv, I was using 10W30 conv but I went to 10W40 when I started towing and I figured since I had more then 100K miles I would just do it for the hect of bearing clearences but the 318 and 360 have very good clearences so I can revert back to 10W30, now I tried using a blend oil, Durablend. I didn't like it, for some reason the oil pressure would seem lower with the blend then with conventional. I might try the blend again but my local autozone only sells the blend in 5W30 and sometimes 10W30 but if I tow I want to have something thicker.
As for frequency, I change the oil every 3000 miles. Sometimes I change it a little earlier but I am pretty good about doing it by 3K. I recently replaced my rear main seal and this gave me the ability to check the main bearings and they were in excellent condition so I might go back to 10W30 for daily driving. The only issue I find with these magnums is when they acquire many miles alot of gunk and varnish will collect on rear main seal and on the crankshaft around that seal. But hey what you expect for 130K miles... Once in a blue moon I do a seafoam treatment. I use valvoline fuel injector cleaner every oil change and on every second oil change I use valvoline fuel injector + intake valve cleaner.
