Default Oil Question

Just changed my oil. Installed a Mobile one filter and mobile one 5w20 synth oil. The parts house said the oil filter had some special piece that keeps the oil from draining for start ups. Not sure how much of this new crap is needed? But here's the problem - everytime I start the engine I smell an oil smell in the cab. Any idea what the heck is the problem. Oh, I have crawled under the truck several times and can't find any oil spills on the under side to include the exhaust. Also, I am getting a proper oil pressure reading according to the gauge. Sorry if this is a stupid question. This is my first Dodge, and just want to make sure I haven't overlooked something. Thanks in advance.

The thing in the filter isn't anything special. It's called an anti-drain back valve. But the spell may be caused by any oil that spilled on the valve cover or the side of the block.

Most oil filters have an anti drainback gasket. If the filter isn't leaking and the bottom is dry then a drop or two of oil may have spilled onto the cylinder head or exhaust manifold. Will probably dissappear in a day.
You may want to take a good look on the cylinder head beneath the filler. If you see any standing oil, you can clean it off easily by spraying ther area with non-chlorinated areosol brake cleaner when the engine is cold (just make sure the engine is cold and don't let it splash on painted surfaces).
