Default Swap from 4.7 to 5.7

I wasn't sure which forum to put this under, but I figured it may be something some non-Hemi guys would want to know about.

So I started off and was planning on fixing my 4.7, but when I opened her up I found the following

Fixable, but to me not worth it, because at the end of the day I would still have an engine no better than when I first got this truck.

So, the next step was today:

Today was supposed to be the day I shoehorned in the 5.7 as well, however for some reason a shadetree mechanic with all hand tools is able to get a motor out of a vehicle in 4 hours, but the professional shop with someone who is paid to remove the motor needs 48 hours to do it.
So, here it is.

My next update will probably be next week as, well... I don't have a lot of time to work on the truck.

Of course if I have put this in the wrong place, please feel free to move it.

A couple of things for those planning the swap:
The vehicle is an 04 Dodge Ram 1500, and the engine I am putting in is out of an 05. I am swapping the engine, wiring harness, and computer. As things come up, of course(as they probably will) I'll have to swap more. For ease of access to the wiring harness for swapping, I went ahead and pulled the engine and trans together.

That was part of the reasoning behind going with the 05. Though nearly any vin code D would work, however some places don't pay attention when you say you need a VIN code D Hemi. I was going to go with an 04 so I could know it would work with my truck, but 04 and 05 are similar enough that the wiring harnesses should work well. I don't think I'll have the problems the 02 guys had where I would need the wiring harness and body wiring to get it working(or figuring out other internal wiring). Fortunately for me, I had the 4 plug computer anyway, so no TCM. I know the 04 could have either the 4 plug or 3 plug with separate TCM.

I am thinking that I may have to redo the lines for the AC, and possibly get a new radiator. Though admittedly I am half tempted to do that anyway as radiators are relatively cheap and I live in Phoenix, AZ where temps get up to 120-125(on occasion upwards of 130, which the news never reports accurately, but the anually calibrated thermometer doesn't lie). Last thing I want is an overheating engine. Obviously hoses as well, but that's a given.

If this works out well, next project is stuffing a hemi in my girlfriend's sebring Just kidding... Gonna go for the V10

Funny you say that, someone has already stuffed a V10 into a 2002 that had a 4.7.

An 02 crysler sebring had a 4.7? Course that's all a joke since my gf has an 07 sebring. And there's no way in hell I'm gonna do that without a welder.

I promised an update this week, so here it is:
I got my motor, mated it up with the trans, and shoehorned it in.

Couple problems though:
1) Going from 04 to 05 was not as simple as I had thought. The underhood harnesses are different for 04 and 05. The harness plug does not match up to the 04. So for those wanting to do the swap, you might want to stick to the same year.

2) The alternator, and AC Compressor do not match up. Kind of a bummer for me, I spent a bit of extra time wiggling around the compressor lines so I didn't have to evac the system, but in the end I'm going to have to do it anyway. So for those that want to do it, just go ahead and evac and remove the compressor.
(sorry no pics of that)
3) Motor mounts: First off, this thing came out of a wrecked truck, so the driver side mount was completely trashed and removed, and the passenger side will be removed, but I took a pic to show that it doesn't quite line up with the mounts on the truck. I thought the 4.7 mounts might be useful, but they don't line up with the HEMI.

I'm not sure if the 05 and the 04 used different mounts for the HEMI, so I'm going to look for the mounts.

And finally, the place that I got my engine from said they had the computer. Then when I went to pick it up, they apparently didn't have either the computer, throttle body, or the MAF sensor(grumble grumble complain). But they did have the wiring harness in tact, so I guess I can thank them for that(usually they just sawzall through it to get it out in a hurry).

So far in this project I'm up to 15 swear words used.

No, a 2002 Ram that had a 4.7 turned into a stealth SRT-10.

Yeah, I was kidding. I kinda figured it was a Ram 4.7 to V10. Forgot the smiley.

Easier to do than putting a RWD engine and trans into a FWD car. That would be tough. Might be easier to build a race car than to build that.
