Default Radio fuse causing SERIOUS battery drain anyone know?

hey all. i have a 2004 dodge ram 1500 shortbox. i have installed stereos as long as i can remember, but i seem to have a problem with my cluster, radio fuse. everything worked when fuse was in just drained a full battery in 3 hours.

i took the fuse up and broke the circuit and waited 15 hours and tried starting my truck. and for once it started.

when the truck started my interior lights came on because my door was open. but when the truck was off they stayed off even when door was open. also stereo never works cuz i took the fuse up. anyone have any ideas to what could be causing this big of a drain.

I would say you have a bad battery also, I can play the stereo all day with the truck off and still start it. Do you have subs and amp? Are they shutting off?

the battery is fine i have had it tested numerous times, its also brand new, and yes i have subs and amp in it and they do shut off when i turn the key off,

with that fuse out i cant use the stereo at all but my interior lights will work if the truck is running even tho the fuse is out. but when the truck is off those interior lights will not turn on at all.

so do you think it could be the stereo or the cluster or the interior lights its been a problem for about 8 months.

It is hard to tell without seeing it and testing myself. There has to be something in the stereo wrong because if you remove the fuse your drain disappears. I would have to think one of your power wires on the back of the deck are hooked up wrong. I know on the back of the deck there is a constant for the memory, one for when the truck is started to tell it to turn on, and one to dim when the headlight go on. So my first check would be to make sure that the remote wire from your amp is not on the constant power. the amp would be on but you may not know it because of no signal to the sub would not hum or anything with a good system.

Or maybe you have a bad ground someplace. Electrical problems are hard to find when they are not in front of you. I am an electrician and I have to chase bad connections all the time.

Good luck. Sometime the answer takes awhile, while other times it just pops out of nowhere!!!
