i have a 07 ram v6 had it since new and have never seen better than 17mpg have seen as low as high 14's normal is 16.5mpg if i drive 55mph. if i drive slower and dont worry about the mph and worry about my rpm and keep it below 1500rpm i can get 17mph. my driving is 70highway/30city most of the time. i too was not happy after i bought this truck the last one i had was a 99 dakota with the 3.7v6 and a 5speed even with that when it had 160,000miles when i sold it i was still getting 20mpg with it. really wish i stuck with a stick with this turd. i know the next truck i get will have 2more plus in it. i guess the only thing i can do to make my mpg jump is do the fan mod. i just changed plugs back in the summer to standard run of the mill autolite so i wont be changing them out unless there is a better plug that is a 100% going to get me at least 1mpg better.

I did get 20 mpg at one time, I can't really say what the hell happened. I kept modding, gears, tuner, headers, and 180 t-stat and somewhere it just started to fall off. I've changed my t-stat back to stock hoping to reclaim some mpg, first tank w/ the stock hasn't changed much. E-fan gave me the only real mpg gain of any mods, I saw a solid 1.5 mpg improvement.

Well my gas mileage is still hovering at 15-16mpg, stock tune, and stock t-stat, and oem spark plugs. Went over the exhaust today looking for any leaks, found nothing. Only things I have left to try are going back to iridium plugs or changing out the O2 sensors which aren't throwing any codes. Maybe I'll just swap the front and rear sensors around and see if that does anything. I dunno, I threw the jet chip back on the truck after my last tank showed 15 mpg w/ the stock tune, that is how desperate I am.

I wouldn't expect much more than 15-17mpg out of that engine in the full size truck. I also wouldn't run the Jet chip, it won't do any good and will only screw up the A/F ratio. Also, check to make sure front and rear O2 sensors are the same part number, they are usually not and you can't swap them.

Thanks for the heads up about the O2 sensors. I've had this truck for several years now, and was getting 18-21 mpg consistently from it. I've dyno'd the jet chip as well as stock and performance tunes on the truck, the a/f is fine w/ the chip and although the gains are small and only in the higher rpms, they are there.

Hey guys!
I regularly get about 16.5ish, but I have gotten 19.2 once... doing 55 thru California on a trip up to Washington from Texas... with a 1500 trailer in behind, no less... no clue why exactly except I didn't get outta 5th except to drop to 6th on the long a straight for an entire tank. Now, as I said, I get 16.5 with city/hwy split but I also have the 6-speed getrag, and I've heard that really makes a difference as the 4-auto really sucks up the power. I borrowed a Liberty with the same engine once, and it was lighter with the auto and it was stupid slow, but my little silver beast seems to go faster, get better mileage, and drive smoother than the Liberty... eh, who knows. At least I don't have the 4.7, mileage of the 5.7 but 75 horse less power... lol
