Yeah, he's got the 12" Infinity in a box on top of his rear seat now, and wants a box to neatly tuck it under the seat. If the specs are correct on that box, it's got enough airspace and mounting depth for the sub. I don't know about the quality, but hey, it's like $69... Would cost me about $45 in materials to build out of 3/4 MDF anyways. I think he's going to order the box this week. I'll report back on the quality and such for anyone interested. With this box, it seems you'll be able to fit one decent 12", probably more than enough for the truck and average Joe.

Would we be better off building one out of 3/4" MDF or him buying this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/2002-2008-Do...item43ac92ffcd? It seems like it'd work with the sub, but all the Ebay boxes are made of 5/8" MDF rather than 3/4". Would it be that much of a difference? I just built a down-firing box for the same subwoofer for my g/f's VW GTI and it came out great (reason for my buddy's request), but it was much easier than the Ram box will be. So, to build or buy? I guess that's the question!
Don't bother with these Ebay boxes if you are going to put something that takes more than 150rms. They are not going to hold up. THey are nailed together and sealed with caulking and way to thin. Most are 1/2 mdf on the bottom and 3/4 top. When I tossed mine and bought the glass box the volume level of the bass was considerably higher.

Really? Well, I can't say that I'm surprised. It states that it's made out of 5/8" MDF. I know I make my boxes out of 3/4" and usually double layer the face, but I'm no box builder. So you think it would be a mistake to buy? Like I said before, I know I can make one (out of MDF) but it'll take longer than usual, figuring the angles and trying to calculate the airspace. Do any of the calculators listed previously in this thread calculate more complicated boxes like one for under the seat of the Ram? The calculator I use only does squares, wedges, figures port length, etc. I don't think you can add all those extra measurements. Worst case, I can do it manually. So... build it for him eh? I thought you'd say that...

The quality of the eBay boxes is really variable. I have a friend with one in a new Camaro, and it's a pretty damn nice box! I think he paid like $100 shipped and it's for 2 12"s ported. Not bad, would have been damn near $60 just to buy the MDF. The 5/8" MDF is not the way I build my boxes either, but if the panels are small and well glued 5/8 is fine for lower powered ( less than 500 watt) systems in my opinion. I have in the past used 5/8 where I was squeezing for airspace before I started building fiberglass enclosures. It's up to you what you spend your time doing, but for $60 if it looks nice, and fits just slap a quick coat of fiberglass inside it for strength and be done!

Thanks for your time!
