Default Fuel gauge needle acting up

Hey everyone about a month ago my gas gauge needle starting acting weird on my 97 ram truck. When im parked in the garage or stopped at a light it shows the correct fuel. When i start driving the needle starts to move to empty and stays there until i brake then it goes up to the full side. When it moves to empty the low fuel light does not turn on. Itll only turn on when its actually low on fuel. I realize the gas moves around in the tank when the truck is moving but i dont think the gas can move so much where the needle will go below the E and stay there when theres at least half a tank of gas in it. The truck runs fine so i just ignored it. But now im wondering if this has this happened to anybody else and if it has was it an easy fix? i hope so

I'm guessing here... but it sounds like the float in your tank came loose. usually there is some sort of anchor in place to prevent just what you're referring to, but it comes loose the float will bounce around the tank, giving false readings.

My old '79 Malibu had a gas guage like this, never knew how much gas you had, unless you were stopped on level ground...
