Default Can I tow a camper?

I have an 09 SLT 4x4 crew with 17 rims 4.7. A friend is in a jam and asked if I could pull his 30 foot gulfstream camper about 60 miles this weekend. I think its roughly 6000 lbs.

First question, when I bought the truck it has the plug set up for 4 & 7 pin in the bumper, but wouldn't I need some kind of brake booster gadget thing? Also, the truck came with the tow "prep" package, and I ordered the hitch that bolted up to the existing tube frame underneath. Isn't there different classes for certian types of hitches? Can I pull 6k. I'm going to do some homework, but figured this would be a good place to ask.

Thanks

Your rated for 6000 (11500 GCWR) or 7000 (12500 GCWR) depending on whether you have the standard 3.55 or optional 3.92 gears.

What you will find is it if actually weighs 6000 lb you will be very close to gross even with just a driver and fuel. You will need a weight distributing hitch (which I assume he has) and a brake controller to do this right.

If you attempt to tow this trailer without a weight distributing hitch (which I do not suggest) you will be very tail heavy, nose high and need to be careful and go very slow because if it starts to sway at speed you could very easily end up upside down in the ditch.

Most likely you have a harness under the dash already to attach to a brake controller. If so you can swap his into your truck most likely.

WARNING: Do not tow a 6000 lb, 30-ft trailer without brakes. Stopping distance will be terrible and any any sort of heavy brake application could result in a jack knife.

I have the same set up and tow a camper. The one I tow is smaller though. The weight distributing setup will level out your ride and well worth the money. The electric brakes are easy to add. Just buy a electric brake unit and a Dodge adapter cable that plugs up to your factory connection in your truck. It is located directly behind the factory location of the electric brake controllers in the 2010 trucks. You can get the brake controller and adapter cable from your local camper parts house or online.

I tow 6700lbs with mine, or at least I will be when I get home. I have towed 7k+ with it before. Towed it...ok...I did not have any assistance at all, truck was stock with a CLIII hitch (should have had a IV, I know). Now she's good to tow WTFIW. (Thats "Whatever the fawk I want)

thats a lot of camper for the rig, but it will do it, if properly equipped with a smart driver....
