You can order the tow package with the brake controller and without. Maybe the sales guy was sleeping when you bought the truck and asked him to include the tow package, I would confirm that information about the aftermarket brake controller with customer service or another local dealer if this would void your warranty, Not sure it can. You could order the original Mopar Brake controller but it is necessary to check if the vehicle has both trailer brake module connectors. These connectors are located under left side of the steering column. Both connecters are usually gray 4 pin connectors. If both connecters are not present the original ITBM kit cannot be added to the vehicle. The only way to know is for you to look and verify. if you do then you can order the Mopar Brake controller, it goes for around 200$, After the dealer installs the trailer brake kit they will need to program your computer for the brake controller to function. the dealer usually charges for this, but I would see if they can meet you half way on the total installation charge to get this done to your truck, at the end of the day, you would of paid for it had they installed it unless you had some sort of arrangement in the original purchase deal.

The only way an aftermarket brake controller would void your warranty is if it caused a problem that caused damage to the vehicle and the 'void' would only be for that. If the brake controller is installed properly, then this should not be an issue at all.

For peace of mind, you could get the dealer's service department to install the controller. If they claim is will void the warranty, go to a different dealer.

Thanks.. my plan is to have them install one but for sure they are going to meet me in the middle somewhere with the part or the labor.
