I did the math when we got my wife her GC (first flex fuel vehicle we've owned) and it didn't pan out. I can't remember the exact numbers, but in order to save money, the cost per gallon had to be, and don't quote me, something like 40% cheaper than regular gas. I think E85 is excellent gas for tree huggers.

Like I said it was implimented for emissions, ask the EPA or any engineer such as myself. When you use a fuel that has a lower specific energy and on top of that the engine requires more fuel to air then you can already assume that the MPG is going to go down.

But yea I don't have to test it with a vehicle I can sit down with paper, pencil and do the math by comparing the specific energy. Of course energy density which gasoline wins also. If people notice any improvents in MPG with alcohol most likely they are drinking what they're burning!

Wrong. It was implemented to skew the supply/demand equilibrium of corn in order to drive up the price. Pure political bull shit.

Well from the green giant perspective yes, but from the fuel perspective it's reduced emissions and the government and oil companies way to yes make money.

The only people I've seen convert to E85 is race cars and they do it for the hp...not talking flex fuel just people who want to run E85 exclusively.

It takes about 20% more fuel with E85. You need a bigger pump, lines and injectors. The payoff is getting a new tune. Because it has a higher octane rating you can run more timing or boost or both.

Ethonal is corrosive and that's another issue non-flex fuel vehicles may have if they try to run it and their fuel system wasn't design to support it.
