Default 285/55/20 or 305/50/20 need advice.

I am due for tires soon, I want something a bit wider and shorter than the 275/60/20s i have now. truck is dropped with a 2/4 belltech kit.
I have been looking at either a 285/55/20 or 305/50/20. I am sure the 285s will fit but i really like the idea of the wider 305s, but concerned about clearance issues with the front. I will be puting them on the stock 20s, so any info and pics of the tires on truck with a similar set up would be great.

Do you have the 8" (painted aluminum) or 9" (chrome clad) stock rims? The 285 will fit either but the 305 generally requires a minimum of 8-1/2 rim width. The 285 will be close to the upper A arm but should be OK. The 305 will likely require a 1/4" spacer to clear. That last depends upon the tire manufacturer, I have heard that some will fit. Most tire shops will happily test fit a front tire for you to see if it fits OK.

I have the painted 8", so my next question is, choice between a 275/55/20 or the 285/55/20?
285 measures 32.3"x11.2
275 measures 31.9"x10.8
where the stock 275/60/20 measures 32.9"x10.8
or are there other tire size options i can consider? pictures would be great too.

Either of those will fit. I'm running LT275-65-20 on the stock 8" wheels. When I got those I test fit the 285 and they also fit, but were a lot more expensive. I posted a couple of pix in a thread under tires and wheels a couple days ago.

Hey Ramfd! When you decide which ones to go with, post some pics of new tire size to wheel well clearances because I too am planning on swapping out my 275/60-20(32.99") for Cooper AT3 or Falken Rocky Mountain ATS in a 275/55-20(31.9").
