Angry Strut help please!!!

I put bilstein 5100 shocks in the front about a month ago. I gave the shop the old strut and new strut and they switch the spring for me but I installed it. Today after coming home from work I noticed the passenger side strut make a knock noise as a came around a turn. I looked in the wheel well to find the center piston like rod that sits in the middle of the strut tower that has a nut on it was suspended out about 2''. Look at the pictures below and tell me what you think I need to do. I don't think simply tightening the nut will fix it, will it? Thanks for the help!

Below on left is my passenger side and on right is the drivers side how it should look.

since ur shock came through the strut mount, its time for new mounts. if ur not up for that, compress the spring remove the mount pop a nut and washer on the thread and put it back together. the nut should hold it in place. if not i can help you do mounts

Something really wrong there dude. Looks like the top of the shock blew through the upper shock mount. Shouldn't happen. Take it back to whoever installed that bilstein and make em fix it.

pic 2 does not look correct either, should have alot of threads showing after nut is tightened down. first pic is wierd, are the upper mounts rusted bad?? the shock rod should not have blown through like that. You need to look at both struts carefully.

Took it to my mechanic who fixed it. He said it was from improper assembly of the strut when the spring was switched over. I'm going back to pepboys tomorrow to get my money back and more. They put washers where they shouldn't be and beat the mount into place. I had to buy new mounts $50 a piece. And yes they didn't even tighten the nut on the shocks all the way which did damage to both sides. Never go to pepboys for anything. I paid less there then at my mechanic to have my spring switched and payed the price. I doubt they'll pay for my bill to get everything repaired so it looks like I'll be taking them to small claims court. 100% there fault from improper installation of the spring on the strut.

As far as the rust goes, I looked under my truck today and there's really nothing maybe very light surface rust. Not sure why it looks so bad in the picture.
