Default Rear ended last night...

Well...what the ____! Last night my daughter and I were headed to the batting cages and while sitting at the stop light got rear ended. We were stopped and a Chevy Avalanche came up behind and stopped. A few seconds later a Chevy Tahoe came flying down the road and slammed into the Avalanche which slammed into us. Minus the whiplash, we're ok. The truck took the hit to the left rear corner. Went out to survey the damage. Left rear fender has a big crease in it, tail light busted, rear bumper completely twisted, tailgate is damaged, and the BAS and Traction Control lights are on. My guess is the bed is twisted. The left rear is higher than the right. The left front of the bed is pushed closer to the cab. And the bed is shifted to the right. A quick look underneath didn't reveal any damage. I guess the we'll see once the truck goes in the shop.

Just thought I'd share as I was a bit frustrated. The truck was flawless and I had just purchased new wax, rags, and stuff to clean the interior so I could give my baby a new detail. Ugh!

It doesnt take much to move the bed of a pickup truck. Mine moved 2" and got 8k+ in damage from an accident in a Parking lot when it was 3 weeks old.

Hopefully you and your daughter are ok, having been in my share of accidents in my life, the injuries are not always immediately apparent. I am sure I don't have to tell you to keep a close eye on her the next 2 weeks or so. If she starts to develop neck/back/shoulder pain, take her in ASAP.

If the bed was struck on a corner, it is not likely the frame was bent, but more likely the bed twisted like you said. An entirely new bed should be in order, don't settle for half assed work!

Glad to hear you and your daughter are well Cowboy, seriously. Its one thing when you're alone and in an accident, but its a whole different ball game when one of your babies are in the vehicle with you and it happens. Let me guess, the person that hit ya was texting while driving.

Glad to hear your okay, as they said above, injuries aren't noticeable right away. My son was in an accident, he was riding with his friend and they came over a bridge and boom, slammed into a Mazda and a wall. Mazda ricocheted, hit a bus and another car...huge mess, shut down a major highway in one direction for 4+ hours and totaled his buddy's Merc. Anyways, he was fine right after and actually went to school but the following days were filled with X-Rays and MRIs. I'd consult a lawyer as well, if you plan on taking her or yourself to a doctor especially. I had a client back into me maybe a month after I got the truck, she was backing out of her driveway and cut way too soon, hit right between the cab and bed. The bed was all screwed up, I don't recall if they replaced it entirely or just the right side of it but it was expensive! The whole cab had to be repainted. Good luck on getting the truck fixed, and hope all continues to be well with you and your daughter.

First thing I want to say is thank you. It's like I have a huge family I didn't even know. At the moment, we're doing well. As for the truck, it's at the shop right now getting the estimate done. I should know what the estimate is going to be by tomorrow. This bites know matter how you shake it. The accident definitely decreases the value of the truck. On the plus side, as Ramfd said, depending on how things pan out, I may make a few changes. Right now the damage just looks cosmetic. With that being said, I've considered doing the all black sport bumper (eventually I'll do the front). The other thought (which is still a thought in progress) is possibly replacing all the fenders (looks like I have to replace both sides in the rear as it is) with the Fiberwerx prerunner fenders. Maybe a little extreme but the curiousity of how it'll work out is getting the best of me.

As for the cause, nope it wasn't texting. The story from the Avalanche and Tahoe is that a white van realized traffic was stopped and swerved at the last minute. The Tahoe was speeding and had no time to stop. There were four mexicans in the Tahoe. The moment the accident happened three jumped out and went to the bar by the accident, leaving their buddy in the truck. Nice, huh? The lady (also mexican) claims she saw the accident about to happen and tried to move out of the way. But also told the officer it happened instantly. The issue is both lanes were stopped so there was no where to go. Other friends have suggested it sounds a lot like insurance fraud. Who knows... I just found it odd that both drivers requested neck braces and back boards the moment the ambulances showed up. Oh, and to top it off the driver doesn't have a driver's license - thank goodness the owner of the Tahoe does and that's what the claim is being filed against. The plot thickens...
