Default Cooper Discoverer ATP - quick review

Bought my truck new in January 2003. put about 5k miles on the factory tires before upgrading to BFG All Terrain TAs. Until today those are the only kind of tires I've run on this truck. got between 50k and 60k out of each set.

Ran across the Coopers when I walked in the shop this morning. A set is almost $300 cheaper than the BFGs and a little longer warranty so I thought I'd take a chance.

They've only got 45 miles them so here are my first impressions. They look good. Not quite as good as the All Terrain TAs but still good. They're QUIET. It's almost annoying because now I can hear little things shifting around in my tool box! Really impressed so far.

I'll be out at the ranch in two weeks so I'll report back on how he do in Sand and mud.

Does anyone have any experience with these tires?

Update:

The ranch is rolling hills near Brenham Texas and the soil is mostly sandy loam. The drought was hard on us last several years so there is a lot of exposed sand. He 285s are wide enough to provide good traction on the sand. Up hill trails were no trouble. Never put it in 4wheel drive but driving style hasa lot to do with how well your tires perform. There are several natural springs on our property in low areas that consist mostly of gumbo and natural compost. I drove through these areas with no effort.

In short, they performed as well as BFG all terrain TAs. They're much more quiet than he TAs. If I can get the same distance out of these then I'll put these on every 4wheel drive I ever own....until I take a chance on a new tire and am pleasantly surprised. Buy these with confidence.

Maybe every truck is different but I did the Coopers and switch to the Bf's after about 15k. For me the Coopers cupped and were really loud, even had a couple replaced. Had two alighnments and always had them rotated. first thing i noticed after switching was a low speed vibration i had was totally gone. Have about 10k on the Bf's and not a single issue. Im sure Cooper makes a good tire, just not this one for me. IMO

I put Cooper AT 3 on my truck in the fall and they did great through this east coast winter. I thimk they are much better than the Goodyears that came with the truck. I hope you have good luck with yours. I have been putting on Coopers since my first 2001 Ram and have been happy with them.

I ran those Coopers twice. Both times I had flawless performance, and not one flat, or cut tire. They did well in both northern winter snow and ice, and rain. My local dealer closed up, and I didn't have a source for Coopers any longer. I'm currently trying out the Bridgestone Revo II tires, and I have to admit, their actually better in the snow than the Coops were. Time will tell how the mileage will be.
