Well...me being me and all...I WAS going to tell you that for some reason I'm afraid of heights. Would being that far under ground have the opposite effect ? Sub Terra Elation?

I didn't want to butt in, Brad had everything under control

I gotcha now bud. I should have tried to include a bit more info, to be honest mining is kinda complicating to explain on here all the stuff thats goes on and how the ore in the ground turns into nickel coins, thats why I just explained what the machines do and the general order they do it in. In my time underground I have never felt like it was weird or clastrophobic, I am not naturally clastrophobic so that might have something to do with it. With tight security on how stuff is run and everything going down on a cage there isnt any canables down there like in movies, no stope rats either. I think it would be cool if companies did scheduled tours for the public to see how it works and get a sense of what goes on under there. I think for safety and more for production circumstances they dont.

I gotta tell ya though, I love what I do but I hate the location, 90 something days and counting ( I am trying hard not to count) until I get back home, the roads are rough up here, its still freezing at night and there are drunk native people everywhere...

I'm willing to bet the 5 days on are the easy ones. It's the 5 days off that would be difficult to take. Other then maybe taking a drive to Gillam/Sundance or the other way to Leaf rapids/Lynn Lake, there is not a plethora of things to do in Thompson outside the bar.

Have they offered any overtime options yet?

it didnt scare me my first time underground and still doesnt, when I am under there I dont really rhink about cave ins and such, its more the miners who actually operate these machines in fresh areas that face the most danger. Unfortunatley between the Thompson and Sudbury locations this company has lost 4 workers in the last year to various accidents... the safety protocols are pretty good and if you follow what they tell you you should be fine, but it is hard to predict a cave in and some other events

I heard the road up too leaf is pretty nasty, the one guy I live with is at a different mine and has the same schedule as me so we might do some fishing this week. other than that there isnt much to do, last year I worked everyday of the summer, so far this year I dont have much overtiume and none on these set of days off, the schedule goes 5 on 5 off, 5 on 4 off etc. 69 hours 1 pay week 92 the next. May have to go for a drive like you said though, see some more country, after this summer I will NEVER be seeing this damn place again lol I have never been a gym or fitness guy but the company has a fully stocked 24/7 gym on the main plant site where the semelter (and stack) is so I might start heading there and get back in shape a bit

I think thats normal, they do wear though as the scrape on rock all day but it takes a while, its easily over 1" thick steel, not sure what is done as far as hardening them as that would be done a CAT before we get it. they do have wear plates on the bottom and sides that do get changed when they wear down. I think they are pointed to make it easier to "scoop" into a rock pile. Are you headed to Sudbury this year GTyankee??
