Default Supporting mods for camshaft.

Is it necessary to pull heads to replace springs on a cam swap? I read you have to get some tool where you don't have to? Also has anyone had their heads machined for them or is it best to stay away from that and just buy some all ready done? Lastly, what size are our injectors? And at what point would a new pump and bigger injectors be necessary?

The shop that did my cam swap has the tool that made it unnecessary to pull my heads. No machining was neccessary for my 6.1 springs and rods. As far as the injectors go..... I'm not real sure on that. Mine seem to flow plenty of fuel for my application.

What cam are you going with? Getting a custom tune done at the same time?

Getting a custom grind from Stu at Inertia 210/218 then getting a dyno tune. With my supporting mods I'm expecting to see awesome gains!

You don't need to pull the heads to do the swap. You can cheat and use compressed air to keep the valves in place while you pull the springs, just pull one plug and using a rubber bung with a tube through it, pressurize the cylinder, swap one valve spring at a time. I do recommend a valve spring compressor since it's the safest way when the heads are still on the block.

You don't need to upgrade your fuel system if you are just doing a simple can swap. Hell, on my heads, cam, intake, and nitrous setup Johan (my tuner) told me straight up to leave my fuel system alone until I either start running a 200+hp shot or get a blower. Once you upgrade injectors you have to retune the entire system to compensate for the new flow rates and pulse width, so hold off until you absolutely have to upgrade the fuel system to make the ruining easier.

Sweet yeah Ive never done a cam swap before so I'm leaving it to a buddies shop. Yeah I never hear anybody upgrading the fuel system so I was assuming we are set up good stock! Thanks for the info!

It's only worth it if you have an 03 hemi, we got saddled with 10 less psi fuel pressure than 04+.
