Default Sorry-Another Wheel Swap Question

Hey guys got my new 2012 Express 4x4. Like many other I am thinking about swapping from my 20's with the wrangler HP's, down to the 17's. My dealer said we could do that. I did a ton a searching and a lot of people have done it but didn't really say anything about mpg's. If I move down to the 17 wheel what size tires have you guys put on that is close to thsame height as the 20's, as I love how the 20's fill out the wheel well. Is there any big difference in mpg between the two sizes-my other option is sell the wranglers and get some BGF rugged terrains on my 20's. But I have to sell my tires first which may be a pain. If anyone is running the 20's with more of a light A/T tire on-what are you getting for mileage? If I could run a light a/t and really not lose any mpg on my 20's I would go that route. THanks- oh and I have 3.55 gears

Going to 17" wheels can only improve mpg, although it would be slight at best. To get the same diameter tire you'd need something around a 265 70 17. That's roughly a 31.5" tire, and is what came stock on my truck with 17" wheels.

I think the stock 20 tire diameter is about 33" so you could get a much larger tire on the 17's.

I wouldn't worry about the fuel savings, but your tire savings could be decent, enough to offset the price of the additional wheels? hard to say. If you sell yours you could come out ahead.

Thanks for the replies. I really don't want to get rid of the 20's but I awant to get into a light a/t tire. I just don't want to kill my mpg by going to a more a/t tire on the 20's when I could go with the 17's and possibly gain a little mpg. Anyone run a/t's on your 20's and what kind of mileage you getting?

I run BFG TA/KOs in LT275-65-20 on stock wheels. These are 34" tires and since they are E rated LTs they are considerably heavier than the stockers. Gas mileage is worse but not by too much. I'm currently averaging 14.8 mpg per the EVIC; it was 15.4 with the stockers. Note that I have an RC which is some 400+ lbs lighter than the QC and CC trucks most guys seem to have these days. That weight diff probably also affects mileage. I really like the 34" LT tires though, they look great and feel right on the road. Ride is firmer and more stable than the "P" stock tires.

Talked to the dealer and the truck he said I could swap to 17's with was a 2012 with like 30 miles on it, but it had the Wrangler SR-A's which suck. He is going to look for some 17's with the AT/S tires on it. Still not sure what to do, like the size of the 20's but not the tires. Might throw the wheels and tires on ebay and put some aftermarkets on with some 285/75/17.

I have Goodyear Wrangler LT275/65/20AT/S and average 17mpg, they are the best tires I've ever had they ride smooth, handle great in the snow and last forever.

Yep, check my "level it or leave it alone" thread in suspension lift section.
I tried to copy the picture to paste here but the system wouldn't let me.
