Default (not so automatic) temperature control

I have a 2011 Sport with Automatic Temperature Control option.
I assume that you should be able to set the temp and forget it.
The AC should come on by itself as required when in full Auto mode.
I find I have to actually push the snowflake button to engage AC even in hot weather.
If the system is in one of the manual modes, and I turn both dials to Auto, the AC will come on.
Is this normal for these trucks? Or do I need to take it to the dealer?

I've got a '10, so I don't know if there is a difference between my truck and yours....

The climate control should "remember" that last setting that you had it in. My AC snowflake light is usually on all the time that I have it in auto, and will stay on unless I manually turn it off

It couldn't hurt to have your truck looked at by the dealer. I believe there was some sort of recall about the climate control system awhile back... not sure of the specific years/ models though

good luck

It does remember the previous setting>
When I go to work in the morning it is cool so no AC required.
However at the end of the day it is hot. It would be good if I could remote start the truck and have the AC come on so the truck could cool off a bit before I head home.
I question this now because the new Silverado 3500 I was just issued at work operates this way.

The AC doesn't run when you remote start, it only kicks in when you put in the fob and turn.

My snowflake symbol is always on, really was annoying in the winter, but they do it that way to keep the windows from fogging.

Key in and turned = snowflake on, regardless of it's status last time you parked it.

Any time you turn it to auto/auto snowflake will turn on.

That is not entirely true, when I remote start my truck, either cold or hot weather the truck's "Remote Start Comfort Systems — If Equipped" kicks in, you have to have this feature on your truck and make sure you go into your EVIC and enable it. Here is the description right out of the manual:

Remote Start Comfort Systems — If Equipped
When remote start is activated, the heated steering
wheel, and driver heated seat features will automatically
turn on in cold weather. In warm weather, the driver
vented seat feature will automatically turn on when the
remote start is activated. These features will stay on
through the duration of remote start or until the ignition
switch is turned to the ON/RUN position.
The Remote Start Comfort System can be activated and
deactivated through the Electronic Vehicle Information
Center (EVIC). For more information on Remote Start
Comfort System operation refer to “Electronic Vehicle
Information Center (EVIC)/Customer-Programmable
Features (System Setup)” in “Understanding Your Instrument
Panel”.

Hope this info helps.

I don't use AUTO with the Climate Controls

When i pull into my driveway at the end of the day, before turning the key off
I preset the controls, it is currently 56 degrees F at 6 am. i set my fan on Low, A/C off, temperature setting on 75 degrees F
Later in July/August/September at 6 Am, it will be over 70F, I will be setting my Temp at 67F, fan on Low, A/C on

I always Remote Start my Ram, before i put on my shoes, etc.

Thank's for all the replies.
It sounds like the system works as designed.
As I said before, not really automatic in my opinion.
I don't have the heated/cooled seats and wheel.
I'm no GM fan, but their system seems to work better.
