Default trans is slipping.....

I have a 5.2 with an automatic...

The question is:

That my transmission is slippin between 1st and 2nd.

Would be better to find another one or rebuild it....????

Rebuild it! It's is easy and inexpensive to rebuild these transmissions, a person who has never done it before can rebuild one of these in two days!

But before you jump into a money pit buying or rebuilding, first try to diagnose this issue, maybe it's something that can be repaired.

Slipping on the 1-2 shift or in just 1st gear. Could be a clutch issue however if it was a rear clutch issue you would slip in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th!

So the only thing to cause a slipping 1st gear is the overrunning clutch or an issue with the valve body. Now if it's slipping on the 1-2 shift it would be the front band that is the issue and would be corrected by adjusting this band.

I agree, tighten up the 1-2 band, hopefully, it hasn't been run this way so long, that it's no longer an option. The proper way to adjust this is NOT simply to crank the screw down, do a little history on this site and you'll find the right way to do it, crucial... This doesn't even require the pan to be dropped, it's an external adjustment. If I remember right, it requires a 1/4" torque wrench, tho I may be remembering the wrong adjustment. Good Luck!! (loose 1-2 shifts are generally the simplest fix you may ever encounter on this truck...)
