Default front axle suggestions.

Hi, currently have a 1996 dodge ram 1500 that is lifted. I got the truck with a bad front axle, had it replaced and thought i would be good. took it out in the mud one time and broke the other side that was not replaced, fixed that one. now I have 2 brand new "aftermarket OEM" front axles that have been in for about a month and there already no good. I have only taken it mudding once since they were replaced, now my question is does that sound right? (I know offroading puts a lot of extra stress on the truck) and do you have any suggestions for an upgraded axle that i can get that will last out in the woods. Please bear with me here I am new to this.

yeah the knuckle broke on the two old axles and now the new ones are not broken yet but when i turn the wheel all the way in either direction the joints on the knuckle hit each other and i can feel the truck clunk, clunk, clunk along. i was told by the shop that there was tons of play in them and they were going to break just like the other ones did if i kept driving it and they really need to be replaced. I hope this explanation helps.

The only cure I know of for this is the same thing I do on my spice roff road axles, which is to linit the turn angle by using stops. An axle joint on one of these axles in a hard turn is by far the hardest working piece in the driveline, and the only way I know of to make them survive a hard turn while torqued up is to limit how far they have to flop back and forth. I can't remember, but it seems to me these dana 44s have steer limits which are adjustable, you may want to look, as someone may have either removed the stops, or cranked them in all the way. It's not a design deficiency, it's simply inherant in a simple cross and bearing design, flopping from design limit to design limit is tough on 'em, when they're working hard, but if the yokes are actually slapping each other, the design limits are being exceeded, and the steering limits need to be adjusted at the hubshells.
