I think I would still scan it for trouble codes first . Do you have a reputable trans shop that does do diagnostic and repair and not just rebuilds . You know whats gonna happen if you take it into a shop , their gonna tell you it needs to be rebuilt . Let us know how you make out . Good Luck . Tom

yea that's what the guy at aamco told me. I can't afford a high performance trans but i can get a rebuilt one from advanced with my discount for 1200 so that's what i am going to do. He said that the reason that the fluid was so black sounds like a burnt out torque converter like stated above so qudos to boostjunkie. and aamco is the only shop that does the free diagnostic. but i also took it to another trans shop where i know the people so they didn't charge me to look at it and said the same thing. AAMCO was going to charge me 2200 just for a rebuild! on a crap transmission to begin with! once again i love dodge but still....

The Tranny was acting up BEFORE I changed the Fluid/Filter. SO the New fluid being "thinner" makes sense but not with mine. The Tranny DOES NOT slip. The gears drive fine. When I put the shifter into DRIVE it won't engage when hot, When it does engage it drives fine. I am sure that I DO need a new Tranny it just doesn't make sense that the tranny would be "bad" when it doesn't slip or act up once DRIVE is engaged. idk??

Any other Ideas anyone before I go and tear into it hopefully this weekend???

I was really hoping someone else would have had this exact same issue and would know what needed to be fixed. lol If only it was a perfect world.

Thanks for everyone's help thus far..
