when I got my CWP the instructor told us many times "shoot to kill" and much like the military we were instructed to "shoot center mass" because then there would only be one side of the story that had to be told, we were also instructed on the technicalities of the laws and what situations might call for deadly force....

I really do miss the simplicity of growing up in Zimbabwe. The rules there were simple: your property, your job. We had 3 break ins over a 7 year period. the first they took 2 really good bikes, the 2nd and 3rd ended up with one kneecapped by my dad's .44 and the other in hospital after I got him with a hardwood schumbuk (textured billyclub).

I'm in full support of the student, whether he was attacked or not. What right did the guy have to be there? none. I am amazed at how soft north americans are when it comes to criminals; they call you civilized, but you can't even punish your child now, how do you expect them to grow up with any sort of idea about consequences. Ok, i'm getting off topic here. But kudos to the student for putting the carrer criminal shitbag down for good.

This is definitely a good, and IMHO healthy debate, very interesting. As far as where our rights have gone, well I guess I missed the memo, too, that says you have the right to be intruded upon in your own home, but the right NOT to do anything about it, you have the right to own a weapon, just NOT the right to use it! When did we start getting this backwards, where the laws of a civil and just society don't maintain civility and justice, but rather allow someone who has already been arrested 29 times??? to even see the light of day from other than inside a jail cell, where they can have good meals, cable t.v., weight rooms where they can work out for free long enough that when they get out on "good behavior" they can go beat the crap out of someone else! Kudos to "Samurai Jack"! One less resident evil to contend with!!!

A person with a knife at 60' is more dangerous than a person with a gun. This could support that widely believed fact. I think the student has to live with this for the rest of his life. Not easy. The perp was a career criminal that probably would have got off with a slap on the wrist, again. I wonder if a can of mace that sprays 15 - 20 ' isn't a good idea. I have one and an alarm at my house. However, when seconds count and the police are minutes away...
No jury will convict this student.

In any event, burglaries along with traffic accidents, the police do nothing but take reports for the insurance companies.

You are so right! I grew up in the era of if I misbehaved my mom would spank me. Now you talk wrong to your kid they can call Child Protective Services on you! No wonder the younger generation is on the rampage! No discipline!

I know, was off subject but had to touch on the subject!
