Default gearing question.

i know its been asked problem well over a million times but i cant find the answer. so maybe yal can answer it for me or direct me in the right direction!

2001 ram 2500 ext cab long bed dana 60s 46 re tranny 5.9l v8 magnum. i have a 5 inch lift with add a leaf in the back with 35 x 12.50 x 16 bfg m/ts and i have 3.55 gears. at 55 im running like 1400ish rpms maybe a little less and at 70-75 im running like 1500ish. i havent really watched it in awhile. i wanna know what rpms you would run with 4.10s/4.11s or 4.56s. i think 4.10s would be plenty i just dont wanna be running any more than 2k rpms or around it. if their is already a thread for this someone just shoot me a link if someone has an answer just let me know!

thank you!
bradley!

p.s. sooner i figure this out sooner im getting gears!

I ordered the 4:10 gears for my '98 2500 4x4 diesel & I'm running 33" tall tires. 75 mph = about 2100 rpm.

I have a 2010 2500 quad cab long bed with 3.73 gears. At 70-75mph mine runs about 1700-1900 rpm. It has the AAM 10 1/2" rear axle.

That's good to know.

I measured fender openings & calculated gear ratios / tire circumferences before I ordered my '98 so when I placed the order I knew I wanted 4.10's, but to an "old-timer" like myself, just mentioning 4.56's makes you think drag racing, not highway use, 'cause that's the gear commonly run in the '60's & 70's in Super Stock, Modified Production, etc. (The limit in Stock classes was 4.10). BUT -- tires were much smaller in circumference / diameter then than pickup truck tires are today.

i was skeptical too actually i was kind of scared to do it but i have a good friend who does drag racing and we searched the facts and data ... we came up with the 4.56's and i must say the truck is hands down a different ride it has 35's on it and it will literally eat the back tires off of it if i want it to of course @ 345 a tire i dont do it much !!! This was the best pound for pound mod imo !
