Default Tire wear

Hi guys, I was washing the truck today and I noticed my front tires are wearing in the middle. I have checked my air in my tires and put it about at factory spec. should I let some air out of my tires since it is wearing in the center It also seems to only be on the pass front tire. Thanks

the main thing that you need to do rotate them front to back,,, and make sure that u have the correct tire pressure, do not under inflate them thinking your doing good and that going to repair them by running less air pressure, at this point the best you can hope for is a little longer life,,, you had to have had allot of pressure,,, good luck

Ya it has me stumped. I have only had the truck for maybe 500-600 miles. I have checked my pressure 2 times in that amount (owned it about a month). It had almost brand new tires when I bought it, and they still have the little tits on it. I thought maybe an alignment but that would be side/side not like it is, also thought ball joint but that would also be side to side.. Every where I search people say that is caused by over inflating or to narrow of a rim and I have stock rims... I also found something interesting, My build sheet on the truck says I have 265,s (i do), but my truck says 245's on the door. Just thought I would point that out

could be a camber issue i'd get it aligned if you have the right air pressure in there and shoot even if its already perfect thats $50 well spent in my book.

I did a little bit of digging around and I think I have a ball joint issue. I have a squeak in my suspension and I found that dodge has sqeaky ball joints when going bad. And it sounds like it is from pass front, and that is the tire that is wearing.

That wouldn't be a shocker. I have heard quite a bit about the ball joints in the third gen trucks. I have a lower ball joint on one side that is split but it isn't causing a problem yet. I plan on proactively replacing the upper and lower ball joints and tie rod ends when I get the extra money.....probably next tax season, lol.

On a side note....by far the cheapest place I have found for the parts is Amazon. They are much cheaper (than Advance Auto) on all of the above pieces by Moog and have free shipping. I also just ordered new ceramic front brake pads and Monroe front shocks from Amazon. Total at Advance would have been about $165. Got it shipped to me for free for $105.

Thanks for the tips. I really want to get moog but $ is tight and I am tempted to try a cheaper brand. A and M auto has both upper and lower from 115.50 with free shipping. http://www.am-autoparts.com/2003/Dod...18/592264.html, but I am unsure if I want to go cheap for the reason that they are cheaper

Yeah, that's probably about as cheap of a price as you will find for all four pieces. Looks like all four Moog brand pieces through Amazon would run about $192. They aren't listed as free shipping on Amazon but if you sign up for a 30 day trial of Amazon Prime you can get free 2-day shipping on anything you order during the trial. That's what I did with my shocks and brakes so they would get here in time for me to have them installed this week. If you cancel within 30 days there is no cost.

I'm a little cautious about the parts that you linked because the site doesn't seem to give a brand name anywhere. I'm all about saving some money (especially right now...things been getting tight, lol) but I think I am going to try my best to wait until I can afford the Moog products.

another way they wear on the middle is having a wide tire on a narrow rim. Example would be a 13.5 wide tire on a 9 wide rim would tend to wear more on the centre than on the outsides because the tire is being pulled onto the bead. What size tires and wheels are your running
