To be honest with you I am saving up for a complete exhaust change over. Going to get some American Racing Headers, an X-Pipe and turn it into a true dual exhaust. I went with a Flowmaster 40 Muffler but after seeing some people do headers on this forum and how easy it was I just feel like spending the extra money and getting a really good exhaust system that I can put on and be done with.

I know this thread is a few months old but... my buddy just picked up a brand new 2012 express and wants to do a muffler swap. Even tho I have always kinda hated magnaflow, from what Ive read here that's the muffler to go with for an inexpensive simple swap. Does anyone know the part number for the 18" that will swap in? Im assuming I'll need to add a bit of pipe but thats no problem I just don't want to have inlet/exit misalignment with the factory pipes, nor have I looked under his truck to see if its a SI/SO muffler or what have you.

I will be the one doing the work in case you can't tell..

Thanks in advance

If you want a quick easy bolt on swap, check out Mufflex. They sell kits with Magnaflow mufflers that are direct swap bolt in.

I think the part number is dods18, as in dodge stainless 18"

hope that helps

you can also weld one it, the magnaflow one, but you will need a shop to do it for you, the Mufflex takes 30min to install. comes with all the hardware and supports for a direct fit, I did mine and love it.

If you save up and buy the Flowmaster Cat-Back I think you'll be plenty happy with that. After doing my mods(see below) I can squeel in 2nd gear easily! I notice people definately look when I romp on it in town! Just remember if you change the exhaust, you need to change the air delivery to get the full benifits of the performance. You'll also need to disconnect the battery, wait like 5 minutes and hook it all back up so the computer can reset and adjust to the increased air and vacuum. Drive it around town then take and open it up for abit and everything will be fine.
Hope that helps, happy mod'n!

Ya I think I got him sold on the 18" maggy mufflex kit as a full catback on these trucks seems pointless considering how well the stock system is done. Ive run aftermarket intakes on my past 2 trucks and to tell you the truth, didnt notice anything really (airaid on my 4.7 dakota and aem brute force on my titan)... stock setups seem to flow just fine unless youre making some serious power. I'll be sure to put up some exhaust videos once my buddy gets it ordered up and I slap it on the truck..
