That's a good pic Magnum...

Wow, blew out at 40K?!? at least it was under warranty right? I'm still working on getting a replacement for mine. It's been a bit of a cluster *truck* getting it fixed.

Here is one of the last pictures I took of my truck on the dunes before it blew out... Don't know if I'll take it back out or not, prolly just pickup a toy to beat the dunes up.

To the OP....I HATE that happened to you. Anything involving drivetrain is always expensive.

As to the comments about changing fluid....I guess I'm of the old school and don't fix it if it's not broken. My GMC had 179K on it and had never had the front or rear diffs touched. I was told as long as they weren't contaminated you were good to go.

That's quite the opening statement !! but, I suspect the problem lies in the previous 132,000 miles before you bought the truck , who knows what that truck has been through before you bought it , I just traded off an 06 1500 S/T 1500 ,w/6spd manual trans, that was one of the toughest factory trucks I've ever seen .
out of the 80,000 on the clock , over 50,000 was hardcore wheeling ,speed shifting, mud bogging , drag racing ,jumping , and spent every winter packing two sleds on the deck , with a combined weight of about 1800lbs , I never had a single drivetrain or suspension failure , in saying that , trucks require regular maintenance , checking for wear, changing fluids etc , or they will not last . by the way , your truck is listed as a 1500 Lariat ??? Don't you mean a Laramie ??

At the shop I work at, Most of the time when the transfer case cracks...breaks.... It usually has to do with the front driveshaft. A bad U-Joint will take out a T-Case by vibrating it to death. On the early 00's and up there is no disconnect with the front end...EVERYTHING turns! You just lock it together (front and rear) with the transfer case lever. At least my old 95 Ram has a front axle disconnect (still spins the spider gears though).
