Default Discharge Conversion

Has anyone done the DD-293 Discharge Conversion before?

I'm getting ready to start the process for myself, and if anyone has got some advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

Yeah...Thats when your requesting to be honorably discharged right??? All I can say is, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to do all that is necessary to be discharged in the time you want...I was doing my discharge when we were going back and forth out to sea, so it went pretty quick for me cuz nobody was worried about getting stuck at the office, damn YNs...lol Oh, and stay on top of them during the whole process...They will put your papers aside and forget about you...One thing they tell you can take two days to do, and it will end up being a week cuz they forgot about it....

I'm already out, General Under Honorable, trying to get it converted to full Honorable so I can get my MGI Bill. (That and I'm thinking of going back in)

oh ok...i believe you have to wait at least six months before you try to upgrade to an honorable discharge...and when you do, you fill out that form and send it in to the NDRB(Navy Discharge Review Board)...And go from there...

Good luck! "General Under Honorable" must mean you didn't bump your head to bad... and everyone in that category still deserves the education benefits for sure!

Yea, basically, I have to prove that the conditions that caused me to be discharged no longer exist, and provide at least three character statements from respected people in the community.

The good news is, if I get the conversion, I can request an RE-1 instead of my RE-4, and if that gets approved, I can go right back into the Navy.
