Mobil 1 filter for me and has been for many of my trucks. Was going to try a 5 dollar Mopar filter but my gutt told me to stay with old reliable #1.

I actually held a Mobil 1 oil filter in my hand today for the first time in a really, really long time. Went to change the oil/filter combo in my Tahoe and realized I'd forgotten to order my batch of Royal Purple oil filters. Took a drive to the local Advance Auto to see what they had in stock.

Ended up purchasing a K&N oil filter that was just a hair under $11.00 out-the-door. Always liked the nut thingymejigg on the bottom as I've for long thought it was a very clever idea. The Mobile 1 was almost $14.00 after tax and the Bosch Premium was greater than another $1.00 more.

I compared all three and all three "appeared" near identical to the naked eye. However, the Bosch seemed to have a more heavy duty coil spring [the part that sits in the base, dead center as you look inside, that holds all the filter's components together]. The Mobil 1 seemed a tad heavier held in the hand with a more rigid filter housing. For the record, they did have a Mopar one in stock. The coil spring was thinner than the rest, the lip gasket was also thinner and the housing had a "tinny" sound when you tapped it; and a good squeeze with your index/thumb created a small dent. Not impressed even though it was about $6.00 and change.

Anyway, I couldn't justify spending the extra few dollars for the Bosch Premium or the Mobil 1.... especially considering I'll be going back to Royal Purple by the year's end.

I still find the subject interesting. Either that or i find the responses entertaining.  I spent a ton of time doing my own research on oil and filters when I bought my Ultra Classic. My main concern was oil breakdown with the extreme heat produced be these newer Harley's and finding the best oil and filter for it. I spent months reading oil and filter reports. I could bore you to tears like some on here with their extremely long post but I will just keep it simple. Almost any filter your chose on the market today made for your truck will work just fine. The minuscule differences will only matter in your mind. You could drive yourself nuts reading opinions on them if you like but the simple fact is they will all work well and this goes for the oil and air filter also.
Amsoil
Mobile 1
K&N
Royal Purple
Bosch
Fram
Purolator
These are in no particular order and are not all of them. Just the ones I could think of. There are a bunch of opinions on these forums that will help steer you to the fast track of insanity with all the oil and filter crap being put out there but if you really want some good honest advice from someone who went to the moon and back on this issue then just use a filter that either makes you feel good or go the other route and use one that's cheap and easy to get. Now, if you really want to know how that oil and filter (air filter also) are doing then spend a few bucks on a oil sample. Blackstone labs has done a great job for me with a great turnaround time. A sample sent in at each oil change will give you an excellent picture of what's going on. As you send more samples you will get a great picture of what's going on because all your results from all your samples will be sent to you every time on an easy to read graph so you will be able to tell if there is a wear concern in a particular area. As you may be able to tell, I'm no expert but I play one online so there.

That's the main reason I switched to Royal Purple oil filters recently; and to address the OP's earlier question.

After using Amsoil and Wixx oil filters exclusively for many, many years, I switched to Royal Purple recently.

A good friend races his Stang and Nova regularly at the track. Last notice was he's running a hair under 1K RWHP on both vehicles. We got to talking recently about engine oil and oil filters. He said he's tried every filter on the market and at WOT at the track has clean burst every oil filter on both vehicles at one time or another.... except the Royal Purple. He switched over to RP last fall and has yet to lose one.

I immediately switched to Royal Purple oil filters after that conversation.

Yeah, our trucks are [probably] never gonna' be pushed to those type of extreme measures/conditions, but I sleep better at night knowing that, more than likely, I'll never [from now on] burst an oil filter.

For the record he runs Amsoil engine oil on all vehicles..... as do I.
