Definitely sounds like the master cylinder. He may have not known what he was doing. If you don't bench bleed the MC it's a bitch to get all the air out when put together. Most new MC's will come bench bled.

is the pedel hard with the truck off?? soft when you start it??
if that is the case you have air in the abs sytem to fix that you will need to bleed the brakes again with the truck running.
but adjust the rear drums first

i have a 96 1500 that does the same thing...i have gone thru 2 new masters and the problem is the same...you can drive the truck but the pedal is squishy. i have bleed them several times...no change.

the truck has no ABS (at least it doesnt have any wheel sensors or fuses or relays in the appropriated spots) BUT...it does have a solenoid looking proportional valve looking thing, directly under the actual proportioning valve (see below pict, top one is the suspect). the valve looks like it could be rear only ABS but again, i dont think so (the rears will lock up)

this valve could be bad i think...causing internal bleeding and squishy pedal...just no external leaks or air in the system.

your thoughts?

Has anyone mentioned the 10 second pause? Whenever I bleed ABS brakes it helps to do the last two bleeds per wheel with a 10 second pause. When you're sure the air is out. Hold the pedal, count to 10 slowly, then release the bleeder. If there's any air trapped in the ABS you'll know it and do another 10 second pause.
