Default Another fuel pump dead 5.7 1500

I have 10,264 miles on the truck and it died last night driving down the road with a truck full of kids.
First symptoms started 3 weeks ago with erratic fuel gauge going down to empty then showing full and so on. I took it in they said it was a sensor they replaced it last week got it back didn't drive till yesterday and drove about 40 miles . When driving down the road it just died lost all power steering and brakes, which sucked got it over to half off the road tried to restart would just crank. I then noticed I didn't hear the fuel pump priming up when turning the key to on. Had to wait about half hour for tow (which wasn't so bad if it wasn't so hot and having the kids with me). Dealership called today said it was the fuel pump.
We do lots of trips out here in the desert going to Vegas all the time and just don't trust it now did a search on another forum and more than a few has had this issue and one guy on his 2nd at 23k miles so decided to trade the girl in for a 12 2500 outdoorsman megacab.
So just a warning from what I read when others went out too, It started the same with them erratic fuel gauge if it happens to you get it in asap and have them check the pump just not the sensor
Thanks for your time,
Mike

That's not the only factor just helped decide faster since I plan on towing more weight too.
