Default Overheating...

1996 Ram.

Gets/runs hot when not moving. Cools when in motion. Leaking coolant inside the bottom air vent when AC is on.

Is this a bad heater core or head gasket?

Sounds like the heater core. Get the truck warmed up and turn on the defroster and see if the windshield fogs up for a few seconds.

I would go with heater core as well. And my advice is if you get an aftermarket core that does not have the same amount of foam around the top of the heater core, get some weather stripping or something similar to cover the top of the heate core box and core. I got a heater core from Auto Zone and the heat wouldn't blow very hot, most of the air was going out the top of the box instead of THROUGH the heater core. I wrapped the top up and it seemed to fix it.
