Default Pre-made box not enough, going to build my own

Got my truck a few weeks ago, 2011 2500 CC Hemi. Non-Alpine and it's not an impressive system

Sub enclosure first
The pre-made boxes are very convenient to buy, some are decent, some are crap. I plan on running two 10's and have found that most pre-made boxes do not allow enough airspace to make 10's happy and most are made of 1/2MDF or plastics. I have heard a handful of pre-mades which made me decide to custom build. After tearing the back part of the truck apart, I have come up with a simple solution and I have seen a few guys do this mod on CC before. Iam going to cut the metal structure which forms the storage compartments out of the trucks floor which will enable me to build a box with atleast twice the airspace, but still have a clean factory appearance. I don't know why other guys are not doing this...it will take 30mins tops and then the sky is the limit. The owner of netaudiowf.com has done this mod which inspired me to do the same. Only bad part is if I ever sell the truck, the box will probably have to stay in the vehicle in order to look right. Iam going to do my best to keep the factory cup holders in place....should be easy enough. Thoughts? Anyone else do this?
My friend told me not to, and simply add more power to the subs to offset the lack of airspace, but if Iam going to spend money on this system, I want to bass to be loud, rich, musical, and hard hitting. I think I can achieve this with the added airspace

have not decided on power yet, but there will be enough to make some tens pound

In my opinion, seeing this done on a buddies ram(2004) he custom made a fiberglass box form fitted just for the storage compartments. And he has the beast sounding system I have heard anywhere. I would think that would be a much simpler process than taring out the storage compartments. A 10" sub requires 1 Cu. Ft airstace minimum for quality sound. He has 2 12"s and it sounds phenomenal. But beside the point, taring out the compartments opens up doors for larger subs and anything else you could come up with, just some food for thought. Keep us updated on what you decide to do! I would love to hear! and good luck!

I custom made my own fiberglass boxes, they are awesome. You would really have to hear them in personal to appreciate the work.

I spent maybe 100-$150 tops, for all the wood, materials, carpet. And to top it all off, I custom made them so I feel so proud about them

Another thing, they use 100% of the underseat storage space unlike any other box. They weigh 50-60 lbs with the subwoofer installed

If your talking with Paul already, then not sure why you would cut out the storage metal. My box is 1.1 on just passenger side and he could get me about the same on the drivers side if I wanted.
I could have gotten probably about 1.3 if I was willing to raise the seat and inch(not willing). You have many options to drop in there with 1cuft; RE Audio, Arc Audio, and Sundown are the ones I play with. The airspace is fine for nice tight loud bass, you just have to feed the power. Look for the small box series of woofers that can handle at least 600wrms each if you are going to use 1.0. Two Sundown SA-10's eating 1200wrms from the Arc class D amps and I think you will be surprised how loud it will get.
I've got the single 12 RE SEX on passenger drinking 400wrms and I'm thinking of having him do me up a slot ported 10in for Sundown SA-10 drivers side to give some roll off boom in my system when listening to rap.
This way it modular when I need the storage space during hunting season I can pull it out.
Plus with fit to factory storage space boxes, you can always sell the box for good money if you decide to upgrade to newer model year truck.
