First of all, the 2009 RER radio USB port was not installed FULLY
you have to take out the lower & upper glove compartments, then reach behind the radio & remove the coiled up USB cable that they stashed there.
I don't have an Apple device so i just left mine tucked away.
If i did have a Apple device, i would either find the bulkhead mount from a newer Ram & install it into the side of the cardboard fiber of the glove box or get a longer USB cable & run it to a more accessible place.
Another thing that you should know, the RER radio does not work to its full capability, an updated CD was sent out, it makes the RER work so much better
i would give you the part number of the CD, but i am on a cross country trip & won't be home for a few days
if you go to the http://mofv.com/mygig
website, it may still be posted on there
the CD only works with the RER radios & the identical radios with a different designation, that were put in Jeeps & cars
Follow the directions fully
, do not stop the download once it begins. If you have other things to do, have your 2nd key with you to lock the Ram up, because you need to have the key on to do the software install
As to the Navigation updates, they charge each Ram owner $179 each & every time that you update your maps, maybe every 3 or 4 years
Instead of laying out all that money, buy a $200 - 300 Garmin NUVI portable with LMT
, you will then have free Lifetime Maps & Traffic
for the life of the radio
