Default Rer-rhr

Is it a direct swap of my rer to the rhr?

I have the 730n, which I thought was RER. Isnt that the best one?

But anyways, it should be a direct swap. The only thing is that you might need the dealer to flash the computer to recognize it.

I believe that the RER has two satellite inputs for antennas, the Sirius and the GPS receiver.. The RHR has one input for both antennas, and the newer trucks have a dual band antenna on the roof so only one cable/antenna is needed. You can always replace the roof antenna to the new dual band antenna.

the only reason for the swap is the audio streaming and not having to use the aux for audio en usb for charging.

other than that i am happy with the rer.

The RHR does do audio streaming and control of the Ipod as well.. You can have 3 USB inputs, one on the front of the radio, and there are two plugs in the back which are also USB inputs. All you need to do is plug a cable into them and run them where you can acess them like I did.. One into the glove box and one into the center console storage area.

I replaced the RES radio that came in my 2009 truck with the RHR.. So if you have any questions about the upgrade, please don't hesitate to ask.

Andy,

I replaced the RES with an RHR in '12 R/T, but now would like a little bass to go with the Kicker upgraded system. As far as I know, Dodge doesn't offer a sub for the regular cab trucks, so I'm thinking of installing a powered-sub under the seat.

My question is, does the RHR head unit have RCA outputs or do I use the speaker leads for signal to the sub/amp? And if you know of a factory sub kit for regular cabs, what is it?

Thanks,
Sean

Sean,

There are no RCA outputs on the RHR. I would have to try and check my wiring to see if there are outputs for the amp as I have the factory Alpine amp and the sub under the back seat. Not sure if I can follow the wiring though. You may want to take a look through this forum to see how others have replaced/added amps and subs to their system. If I remember reading correctly from others who have done it here, the stock uses the output from the front speakers to hook to the amp. Again from what I've read, the trick is having the amp turn on and off with the radio which is controlled throught the CAN bus, not necessarily the key switch.

I know there are others who have more exptertise in this. So I'm hoping they will also chime in.

First of all, the 2009 RER radio USB port was not installed FULLY

you have to take out the lower & upper glove compartments, then reach behind the radio & remove the coiled up USB cable that they stashed there.
I don't have an Apple device so i just left mine tucked away.
If i did have a Apple device, i would either find the bulkhead mount from a newer Ram & install it into the side of the cardboard fiber of the glove box or get a longer USB cable & run it to a more accessible place.

Another thing that you should know, the RER radio does not work to its full capability, an updated CD was sent out, it makes the RER work so much better
i would give you the part number of the CD, but i am on a cross country trip & won't be home for a few days
if you go to the http://mofv.com/mygig website, it may still be posted on there
the CD only works with the RER radios & the identical radios with a different designation, that were put in Jeeps & cars
Follow the directions fully, do not stop the download once it begins. If you have other things to do, have your 2nd key with you to lock the Ram up, because you need to have the key on to do the software install

As to the Navigation updates, they charge each Ram owner $179 each & every time that you update your maps, maybe every 3 or 4 years
Instead of laying out all that money, buy a $200 - 300 Garmin NUVI portable with LMT, you will then have free Lifetime Maps & Traffic for the life of the radio
