Default 94 ram 5.2 running like a pooch

Hello need some help getting alittle fustrated, anyway, I have the engine running smooth but has no power towing or driving. Wont even spin the tires on gravel, I have been through the intake new gaskets top and bottom, new torque converter, went through the throttle body and new map, tps, idle control. Then changed the exhaust to duals without cat converter, with a pair of flowmaster mufflers. Even changed the injectors, put on a cold air aircleaner kit. New high volum oil pump, and then changed the fuel pump. Blocked off the egr and have a check engine light that codes out the egr.

Now anybody have any extra info for me to look at or do.

The truck is a 94 2500 5.2 2 wheel drive with a 518 trans and 3.55 dana 60 rear, have 245-75-16 tires. 120 ticks on the speedo. If you hook a trailer to this just a pooch with a light load on it.

Thanks for any help.

Never had good power, I presume. Theres a few items which could be looked at, in my experience, for example, I once had a Chev which ran nice, but generated pretty sad power, pulled that engine, and upon extracting the camshaft, found that the #6 intake lobe was almost perfectly round. Always a possibility, I guess. Is your fuel pressure steady at 35-40 psi at the manifold? The closer to 40 the better. My personal thoughts on EGR is that it is only supposed to affect idle RPM engine management, but depending on how it malfunctions, makes a difference. I once had an Aurora which barely ran when the EGR valve failed. I think the one you have is cleanable, it may be worth a look. Sorry for the oddball theories and examples, but there are so many possibilities, with such a tough problem. My 2 318 equipped trucks aren't by any means street burners, but they do what I need of them, what were they rated at, new? 220 HP or something? I don't know the torque ratings, but I think it's kinda pathetic, for a 3/4 ton truck, with highway ratios. Good Luck, If you find more torque, somehow, let us all know, Please!!!

They have 220 hp new with 300lb feet of torqe at 3000 rpm and that's were the cam dies. The 355 gears are one thing for low end power. Not really made for off line performance but good for towing and just plain highway use. Another thing is sounds like a cat might be in order. It might be starting to clog. When I have the stock tires on mine same as yours it can spin tires if I get on it mid way through first gear on dry pavement. And if I to randy with it a side step in second isn't out of the relm of possability. Also look into cam to bump up prformance.

Default Thanks and

Thanks for the input, working on it this week to get it where I would like it to tow.

But was thinking about sticking a carb and intake on this maybe with a bigger cam, what do you think about that move?
I know I would have to change the distributor but that is cheap enough, but think it will make more power and be more usable other than the throttle body.

As much as I hate EGR, the system is designed to use it. I'd get that squared away. Also, you listed several parts, but I didn't see a new timing gear and chain set in the list. A slack chain will delay everything and reduce cam effectiveness.

Default chain

Well when I put the new torque converter in I did mess around with rocking back and forth but not alot of play. But the egr valve, blocking it off wouldnt that act the same as if it was closed?
And the timing was solid when the timing light was on it, plus I even put a new distributor in when I changed intake and gaskets.

I really appreciate the input from everyone

When you did tb did you do mod? I know it make more intake noise but will draw more air into eng and might incese mpg's. If not look up cheep mods 2. Step by step with plenty of pic's.

What shape is your trans in? In a different thread ramvan was talking about adjusting the first gear band to tighten up the response when taking off. If your first gear is slipping you will loose a lot of pulling power. Just something else to think about, let us know how it turns out.

Yes did the mod to the throttle body and runs great, gets about 20 driving it nice, but still didnt do the power for towing.

And when I took the old torque converter, I had the pan off and no junk in the pan, reajusted the bands they were on from the start. But thanks for the input.

Default More to add

Well to make it worse, when the engine is cold, and I try to go it acts like it has a bad choke. It doesnt want to move very well, and stumbles when you give it more pedal. Doesnt pop or fart just boggs down, after it warms up goes away. No codes and no engine light. Where do I go from there.

Thinking changing it to a carb setup and MSD distributor, what do I have to do for the trans O D engagement. Thanks
